Matterhorn Mountain, Switzerland
ABOUT:
The Matterhorn (German), Monte Cervino (Italian) or Mont Cervin (French), is a mountain in the Pennine Alps on the border between Switzerland and Italy. Its summit is 4,478 metres (14,692 ft) high, making it one of the highest peaks in the Alps. The four steep faces, rising above the surrounding glaciers, face the four compass points. The mountain overlooks the town of Zermatt in the canton of Valais to the north-east and Breuil-Cervinia in the Aosta Valley to the south. Theodul Pass, located at the eastern base of the peak, is the lowest passage between its north and south side. The Matterhorn was one of the last great Alpine peaks to be climbed and its first ascent marked the end of the golden age of alpinism. That climb was made in 1865 by a party led by Edward Whymper and ended disastrously when four of its members fell to their deaths on the descent. The north face was not climbed until 1931, and is amongst the three great north faces of the Alps. It is estimated that over 500 alpinists have died on the Matterhorn since the first climb in 1865, making it one of the deadliest peaks in the Alps. The Matterhorn has become an iconic emblem of the Swiss Alps and the Alps in general. Since the end of the 19th century, when railways were built, it has attracted increasing numbers of visitors and climbers. Each summer a large number of mountaineers try to climb the Matterhorn via the northeast Hörnli ridge, the most popular route to the summit, from the Hörnli Hut.

Engelberg, Switzerland
ABOUT:
Engelberg is a resort town and municipality in the canton of Obwalden in Switzerland. Besides the town of Engelberg, the municipality also includes the settlements of Grafenort, Obermatt and Schwand.  The municipality of Engelberg is an exclave of Obwalden, surrounded by the cantons of Bern, Nidwalden and Uri. Engelberg has a population  of 3,989.[1] As of 2007, 21.0% of the population was made up of foreign nationals.[3]  Engelberg is the leading mountain resort (Urner Alps) in central Switzerland. In the Middle Ages, Engelberg was known for the educational accomplishments of its Benedictine monastery, the Engelberg Abbey, whose school was well-known and regarded throughout the country. From the 19th Century, Engelberg became internationally known as a resort and spa, but is today visited as much for skiing as for its clean air. With its combination of modern sports facilities and alpine location, Engelberg is a magnet for both summer and winter tourism. The closest large cities are Lucerne and Zurich.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_lakes_of_Switzerland
ABOUT:
Switzerland has a large number of lakes, large and small, which can be found in most areas of the country. The two most extensive, Lake Geneva and Lake Constance are shared with neighbouring countries (France, and Germany and Austria, respectively). The largest wholly Swiss lake is Lake Neuchâtel.  Next in size comes Lake Maggiore (shared with Italy) followed by Lake Lucerne, Lake Zurich, Lake Lugano (also shared with Italy), Lake Thun, Lake Biel and Lake Zug. A further 46 lakes exist that are more than 1 square kilometre (0.39 sq mi) in surface area, and a considerable number of smaller lakes.  For a list of artificial lakes, see List of dams and reservoirs in Switzerland. For a list of lakes above 800 metres that includes smaller lakes, see List of mountain lakes of Switzerland.
