The markhor is a large species of wild goat that is found in northeastern Afghanistan, northern Pakistan (Gilgit-Baltistan and northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), some parts of Pakistani Controlled Kashmir and Indian-controlled Jammu and Kashmir, southern Tajikistan and southern Uzbekistan.
